This workshop reviews the DSM diagnostic criteria for autism—particularly presentations that are easy to miss, including in bright students—and offers concrete strategies for distinguishing autism from commonly overlapping conditions such as ADHD, anxiety, ODD, OCD, S/PCD, DMDD, trauma, giftedness, and borderline personality disorder. It closes with a focus on Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA), a profile within the autism spectrum that is often misunderstood; participants will learn its core features and practical strategies for assessment and intervention.
